Meditation on Awareness
"If you are unaware,
you are always seeking happiness.
And the nature of that seeking is stress.
That seeking is a resistance to this moment,
in conflict with this moment.
If you are aware,
there is only the observation of what is.
And the nature of that observation
is unconditional peace.
It is void of conflict
Not that seeking happiness is wrong.
It is in that seeking
and the canceling out of everything
you find that does not bring you lasting happiness
that you come to observation.
If you still think
eating that chocolate chip cookie
will bring you lasting happiness
you will always go for the cookie.
The key is to be aware enough
of your own suffering.
To be aware that after you eat that cookie,
there is still suffering, there is lacking.
Even in the pleasure of eating that cookie
there is the feeling of being incomplete.
You become aware
that you are just momentarily
distracting yourself from that feeling
by eating that cookie.
If you do not see that suffering,
the suffering that makes
you constantly seek happiness
then you will never really give yourself
to spiritual practice.
Whether it is, repeating a mantra,
self inquiry, focusing on a guru,
whatever it is you do,
you will not do it completely
until you realize the suffering
that is in everything
when there is no awareness.
The suffering that is non-awareness.
When you realize that,
then you will desperately
do everything to realize awareness.
You will throw out everything you know and
think you have accomplished
and do the work that is personally required of you
to come to awareness.
It maybe a direct movement
of attention to this moment,
but more likely for it to be complete,
there will also be practices,
disciplines, immersion in shakti
through a guru or the Meditation CDs
And after lots of intense
spiritual practice and purification,
you will naturally come to the realization
that nothing you do
can every directly deliver to you
the peace that you are looking for,
and you will fall into that peace,
you will fall into your essential nature
Peace will be your natural state
in which everything else arises.
Meditation on Awareness 1
"What I am suggesting to you
is to see what you truly are.
To stop simply unconsciously
identifying with your thoughts
and experience what is truly here;
what you truly are in this moment.
In this you can witness thoughts,
you can witness emotions.
You see such things arise and disappear
all by themselves.
Then what is here constantly?
What are you in this moment?
This cannot be defined.
You cannot know it, you can only be it.
In this, you begin to live as what is real.
In this you learn to be free from all conditioning.
Not that you lose your memory,
but you see it for what it is, simply memory,
a collection of thoughts that arise and disappear.
You feel sensations as sensations,
without definition or judgment.
This is awareness.
Meditation on Awareness 2
"Awareness is not concentration.
Concentration is narrowing your attention
on one particular object, shutting out everything else.
Concentration is something you do with effort.
Awareness is not fixating attention on a particular object
but rather relaxing attention into attention itself
as all-pervading consciousness.
It is not a doing,
but rather relaxing back into what is already here.
Awareness encompasses everything,
and in that allowing,
everything becomes one.
Without the allowing of what is here,
you cannot be fully aware.
The beauty & power of awareness is that
anything that is in the field of awareness
gets transformed back into its essential nature of peace.
The sense of separation between
object and awareness dissolves
and the apparent object itself
merges into consciousness.
If you feel a particular emotion or a painful experience,
in allowing that pain or emotion to rest in your awareness,
it gets transformed into peace.
Whatever you resist, whatever
you remain unconscious to
or distract yourself from
continues to hurt you, continues to dictate your life
and lead you further into separation and stress.
So if there is unhappiness,
know there is something there
you are unconsciously resisting.
The moment you can be honest
of its presence and allow it completely,
then that power of awareness transforms it into peace.
There might be a tug of war that takes place
between the ego and awareness,
between resistance, control and surrender.
But if you persist in that allowing
everything dissolves back into peace,
back into its essence of unmanifest consciousness.
In this way, you feel fulfillment
in the oneness of consciousness.
Even outer situations can get transformed.
And if you continue to rest in awareness in this way,
then even the sense of me dissolves into consciousness.
Even the body, the mind,
all sense of self, even the flow of energy
dissolves into consciousness,
to a place of zero-point nothingness;
an absence of everything.
This nothingness cannot be defined,
described or understood
except to say it is transcendent
and free of everything.
It is prior to everything.
In this, you are free from all bondage.
Recognizing this to be what you are,
you live in freedom.
